Arizer Solo 3 Vaporizer Review

The Arizer Solo 3 is the newest dry herb vaporizer designed by the Canadian company Arizer. One of my first vaporizers was the Original Solo vaporizer. It’s about 12 years old at this point and it still works as good as the day I bought it. The Solo 3 is no different; in fact, it’s improved in every aspect of the previous versions, including vapor quality, heat-up times (15 seconds on-demand), battery life, quicker charging (USB-C), ease of use, and overall maintenance. 

There are a few downsides to the Solo vaporizers, the biggest being the overall size and weight of the devices. You can take the Arizer Solo 3 out with you on the go, but it’s not going to fit in your pocket and will be better suited for a bag or purse of sorts. I prefer to use my Solo 3 at home with a WPA and a bubbler because it puts out massive, tasty clouds. I’m also not a fan of the draw resistance, meaning that it’s not the easiest to draw air thru but I have a few tricks that I’ll get into below.

There are quite a few Arizer models currently available so I’ll do my best to break down the differences between the Solo 2, the Solo 2 max and the new Solo 3 vaporizer. I personally don’t know why they kept all of the models. I think they would have been better off with just the Solo 3 or at most the Solo 2 MAX and the Solo 3 but I just review vapes, I don’t make them. Maybe theres a reason for that. 

The Solo 3 is currently rated as the best dry herb vaporizer for battery life. I was able to get about 3 hours of use via the session mode on a single charge and nearly 100 draws in on-demand mode. I’ll get more into the modes later on in this Arizer Solo 3 Vaporizer review. 

The new Solo 3 vaporizer also comes with the XL Pod System which allow for bigger bowls and longer sessions. This is the perfect setup for someone that likes a nice long session while watching a movie or a TV Show or likes to use vapes in groups with friends. The Solo 3 is also extremely easy to use, so you can just pass it to a friend and all they have to do is inhale. No buttons to push, just tasty clouds.

I’ll be writing another comparison article for all the different Solo vaporizers and will update this review when it’s finished. Included in the Box

The Solo 3 comes with a lot of accessories and comes with everything you need to use it minus the flower but I do recommend picking up a grinder and a bubbler if you’ll be using it at home.

One of my favorite additions to the Solo 3 is the new XL Glass Stems. They have increased airflow and a larger chamber for longer solo sessions or group sessions. I’m a big fan of the increased airflow because the Solo’s and pretty much all Arizer vaporizers struggle with draw resistance. The Solo 3 has cut down on that and it’s a big improvement over the previous models. 

Size and Portability

So like I mentioned above, the size and overall weight of the Solo devices, specifically the Solo 3 is a downside IMO. Unless you’ll only be using the device at home exclusively, this is not portable vaporizer for someone who wants stealth, pocketability, and on-the-go use. If you want to stick with Arizer, I would check out the Arizer Air MAX and if you want to look at another option all-together I would check out the Crafty Plus or the new Venty Vaporizer by Storz and Bickel. 

The Arizer Solo 3 is best used at home with a WPA and a water piece of sorts. I encourage you to check out the glass selection over at POTV if you dont already have a bubbler. They have a few good options at competitive pricing and they ship fast. 

The good thing about the size is that it feels nice in the hands and it’s really not that heavy for its size. It’s easy to pass around in group scenarios and sits nicely on the table when it’s not in use. Some other devices have wonky bottoms or uneven designs that don’t allow them to stand upright but nothing to worry about with the Solo 3. 

Build Quality and Design

This is the category where Arizer and the Solo vaporizers shine in general. They are flawlessly designed and manufactured and will stand the test of time. I’ve owned my original solo for over a decade now and it’s still going strong to this day. There was a story a few years back that someone had run over their original solo with their car and it was still working somehow. Can’t verify the truth behind that one but you get the idea. They are built extremely well and will keep up with even the heaviest of users. 

The display is clear and easy to read with an adjustable brightness option. The buttons have great tactile feel and feedback when pressed, there’s no wonky clicks or sticking and everything just works as intended. Arizer has always produced the best vaporizers when considering the build quality and reliability of the devices.

Warranty – They are also backed by a lifetime warranty on the heating element and a limited 2-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, and a limited 1-year warranty covering the battery. Glass is not covered under warranty but they are appropriately priced for replacements or to keep a few extra around the house. 

Battery Info and Charging Options

The Arizer Solo 3 offers the longest battery life of any portable vaporizer currently on the market. I’ve been able to get over 3 hours of use on a full charge and nearly 100 on-demand sessions. Nothing really compares to this and if battery life is a top priority, this is the vaporizer for you. 

The batteries are NOT replaceable but it fully charges within 3 hours via USB-C. I’ve yet to run out of battery life from any single day use. In fact I’ve done an entire week without having to charge the Solo 3. The battery life from the device is second to none. 

If you want to take it on the go and won’t be near outlets, like camping or road trip etc, I recommend picking up an external battery pack. Anker makes some good ones which you can check out here. 

Heating and Temp Options

The Solo 3 vaporizer offers two different heat modes via a hybrid heating system. The first is the typical session style heating mode which constantly puts out heat and uses more conduction than convection. This heating mode is best used via a longer slow session lasting roughly 10-15 minutes or more depending on which stem system you are using. 

The second heating system is the new Instant heating (15 seconds) ceramic convection technology. It’s Arizer’s version of on-demand heating with an 80/20 split on convection vs conduction heating. The new heating method allows you to get in quick hits here and there without wasting the entire chamber. Now you’ll still get some residual heating in between draws so I don’t recommend too much time between hits but at least this opens up options for micro-dosing and quicker sessions throughout the day. 

It’s not a true “on-demand” heating system. Something like the Tafee Bowle 2 offers true on-demand heating, with less draw resistance and better vapor quality but it’s still a relatively new vaporizer and while the build quality is fantastic, nothing really compares to the history of reliability when it comes to Arizer vaporizers. Arizer vapes are IMO the best manufactured vaporizers of all time when considering reliability, durability, and overall maintenance. The Solo 3 offers a full temperature spectrum ranging from 122F – 428F (50C – 220C) with each heating style offering it’s own preset temperatures. The software allows you to customize each of the preset temps to your liking and offer a ton of options for people who like to dig into the details. Session mode offers 3 customizable presets and the on-demand mode features 5 preset temp options. 

Vapor Quality and Draw Resistance

The Arizer vaporizers are well known for their pure all-glass vapor paths creating very tasty sessions and relatively cool vapor temps. The vapor can get a bit warm with prolonged sessions but thats where the WPA (water pipe adapter) and a bubbler come in handy. 

I’ve mentioned it a few times already but one of the downsides to the Arizer vaporizers is the overall draw resistance. Meaning that it’s a bit harder to draw from compared to other portable vaporizers but the new XL stems make a big difference and definitely improve the overall airflow of the new Solo 3. 

Solo 3 Chamber Info

The Standard stem system for the Arizer Solo 3 will hold roughly .1g of dry herbs and the XL Stems will hold roughly .2g of flower. You’ll definitely need to use a grinder of sorts to help break up the herb. This creates more even heating across the chamber and while you don’t necessarily need to stir the chamber, I’ve found that I get better results with a quick stir half-way through the session. 

The Solo 3 uses a ceramic heating element and an all glass vapor path. The herb sits in the glass chamber and is then loaded into the ceramic heating element. Heat flows over the herbs and up through the glass chamber. 

Maintenance and Cleaning

The Solo vaporizers are some of the easiest vaporizers to clean and maintain because the only thing you need to clean is the glass stem and any screens that you decide to use. A quick swab of the ceramic chamber with a small amount of ISO and rinse the glass out with ISO and hot water and that’s it. Easy peasy. 

Arizer Solo 3 Review Summary

Bottom line the Solo 3 will probably outlive you and overall the Solo 3 is a big improvement over the previous Solo models including the Solo 2 Max because of the multiple heating methods. You also get the XL Stems which improves overall draw resistance and allows for bigger sessions or group scenarios. You get great flavor via the all-glass vapor path and a powerful heater with near instant on-demand hybrid heating. 

The average battery life of over 3 hours is the best currently on the market and the charging times really arent that bad when you consider how much life you get out of it. Like I mentioned earlier I’ve yet to run out of battery on any single day use and I’ve had it last up to a week using it periodically throughout. If battery life is your top priority, this is the portable vaporizer for you.

The downside to the Solo 3 is the overall weight and size. It’s not a small portable vaporizer and it definitely has some heft to it but still fits nicely in the hands and easy to pass around. If you’re looking for something pocketable to take with you on the go, I would consider the Arizer AIR MAX or something like the Crafty+ vaporizer.
